What is Ear Microsuction?
Ear Microsuction is the most effective and safest form of earwax removal as it avoids touching the sensitive area around the ear canal and evades contact with the ear drum.
A low pressure suction probe is used to gently and safely remove earwax. This technique of ear wax removal does not use high pressure water unlike ‘syringing’, therefore allowing Microsuction to be the safest, fastest and cleanest method of choice.
How should you prepare for your Ear Microsuction appointment?
It is strongly advised that you instil one to two drops of olive oil drops into the affected ear/s, for at least two to three days prior to your appointment. Please do not apply olive oil drops on the same day as your treatment.
What will happen during the appointment?
- A comprehensive medical history will be taken
- Microscopic examination of the inner ear canals and ear drums
- Gentle removal of the earwax with a surgical Microsuction unit. The Pharmacist will wear a pair of illuminated microscopes, namely “loupes”, and air will be heard rushing through the suction wand during the procedure. There may be an occasional mild ‘pop’ as the wax is sucked through the probe. Generally, the appointment will be painless.

What are Flu symptoms?
Flu symptoms appear very quickly and can include:
- A sudden fever – a temperature of 38C or above
- Aching body
- Feeling tired or exhausted
- Dry, chesty cough
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Difficulty sleeping
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhoea or tummy pain
- Nausea and vomiting
Why have a Flu vaccination?
- Protect yourself against 4 strains of the flu virus
- Prevent the spread of flu amongst family, friends and work colleagues
- You are eligible for a FREE NHS Flu vaccination if you:
- Are aged 65 or over
- Are pregnant
- Have a certain medical condition, for example:
- Diabetes
- Lung disease, including asthma if you're on a preventer inhaler
- Heart disease
- Chronic Kidney condition
- Chronic Liver disease
- Previous history of Stroke
- Lowered immunity due to disease (e.g. HIV) or treatment (e.g. steroid medication or cancer treatment) or you have had your spleen removed
- A Private flu vaccination is available for £12, for those not eligible for a FREE flu vaccination
- It is advisable to book your Flu vaccination appointment in advance, but walk-in appointments are also welcome.
We provide passport and ID photographs for all forms of documentation, while you wait.
We keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us as well as records of other services we provide to you. This helps us check for possible problems, such as reactions between medicines and will help us deal with any queries you may have. Our computer allows us to keep these records. We are registered with The Information Commissioners Office and comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on confidentiality. If you want to discuss the records we keep, please ask to speak to a member of staff or the pharmacist.
We recommend you consider getting a flub jab If you don't qualify for an NHS vaccination but are:
- susceptible to colds and chest infections
- are self employed and unable to afford time off work
- would like to protect yourself from flu during peak season
